GM conquers SEMA with green and mean vehicles

General Motors entered the 2007 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show with its customized and high-performance cars, trucks and SUVs, although this year, GM sends a message of “Green goes with mean.” The message is clear; each GM vehicle in the show runs on a more environment-friendly powertrain.

Among of these is Jay Leno’s E85-powered Corvette Z06. This supercar has a custom, 500-cubic-inch engine, capable of generating approximately 600 horsepower and is fueled solely by E85.

Also, a FlexFuel Chevy Hot Rod was presented at SEMA. This green Chevy is built by GM Performance Division and brings back the hot rods of the late 1940s and 1950s. By mixing vintage style with contemporary technology, Chevy took inspiration from a 1934 Chevy and integrated a 500-horse FlexFuel version of the turbocharged Ecotec engine. It can get its power from E85, gasoline or any combination of the two.

GM also showcased concept and specialty vehicles from Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, Hummer, Pontiac and Saturn. Cadillac had a customized CTS Sport and Escalade Sport concepts while Hummer featured the racing-inspired H3R and the adventure-seeking H2 Safari. Aside from the green machines mentioned above, Chevrolet also presented a Silverado HD Crew Cab Z71 “Big Red” concept. GMC, on the other hand, proudly presented The Yukon All-Terrain show vehicle, which replaced last year’s Sierra All-Terrain concept. According to a press release, this particular vehicle is made for those with active lifestyles.

Meanwhile, Pontiac featured the Solstice SD-290, along with two new G8 performance sedans. This includes a modified version of the G8 GT production model and a completely customized G8 GT by rapper 50 Cent together with Unique Autosports.

SEMA also became the venue for Saturn to introduce the all-new Astra sport-compact. Saturn impressively presented the vehicle with subtle exterior and chassis mods, as well as unique wheels.
