It is widely known just how truly efficient the diesel engine is. Ford Motor Co. has taken its cue and is reported to equip their pickup trucks, sport utility vehicles (SUVs) and vans with diesel engines some time in the near future. This report came about via the internet, where details regarding the 4.4-liter, turbocharged V8 engine were uncovered. Ford has already confirmed that, indeed, this allegedly new diesel engine will be used in their F-150 pickup truck and Expedition SUV by the time 2010 enters.
This new diesel engine can be compared to the 3.6-liter turbodiesel, as it resembles the engine used in the Land Rover and Jaguar units in Europe. The forthcoming diesel engine will be able to give off nine percent more power as compared to the 5.4-liter gasoline engine. As for the torque, there will be an increase by 15 percent. It retains the zero to 60 mph in terms of acceleration. However, it provides better fuel economy by 20 percent.
The said engine is going to be used in the Lincoln/Navigator SUV, as well as the E-Series vans. The Super Duty trim of the F-Series pickup truck will definitely be powered by this all-new diesel engine. The fresh engine will be designed by the company’s own team. Most probably, the new diesel engine will be manufactured at their plant in Chihuahua, Mexico.
